Dr. Marcello Deraco
Dr Marcello Deraco graduated in Medicine and Surgery in July 1987 Cum Laude; post graduated in General Surgery on October 1992 Cum Laude and post graduated in Clinical Oncology on 1993. Fellow for the duration of 3 years at the Institut Gustave Roussy of Villejuif in France, The Royal Marsden Hospital in London UK and the Washington Cancer Institute at the Washington Hospital Center ", Washington DC USA.
With the exception of training periods abroad, Dr. Deraco has carried out the entire clinical scientific activity at the IRCCS Istituto nazionale dei Tumori Milan-Italy where he is currently Director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancies Unit. He is Co-Director of the European School of Peritoneal Surface Oncology (ESPSO) an ESSO (European Society of Surgical Oncology) -PSOGI (Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International) initiative with ongoing mentor and tutor activity. Therefore, performs the function of tutor for many colleagues who plan to acquire training in the area of peritoneal malignancies. From 2010 to 2014 he was Adjunct Professor at the School of Specialization in Surgery of the Digestive System of the University of Rome TOR VERGATA and is currently Tutor for the School of Specialization in General Surgery of the University of Milan.
In 2013 Dr. Deraco obtained the National Scientific Qualification (Law: 30 December 2010, n ° 240) as a First and Second Level Lecturer in General Surgery.
He was Scientific Director of many events including the PSOGI Consensus Conference in 2006, thus contributing to the drafting of international recommendations on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies. He is a member of the Steering Committee for the national AIOM and international PSOGI guidelines on Peritoneal Malignancies.
As Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator he has conducted multiple international and national research projects, eligible for funding on the basis of competitive calls for peer review. He is currently Principal Investigator of two projects on Appendiceal Cancer and Pseudomixoma Peritonei, one of which is international (Accelerator Award).
He is a member of the Trial Steering Committee (TSC) for the OVHIPEC-2 study. He is a member of the Trial Steering Committee (TSC) for the project supported by the National Institute for health Research (NIHR): HTA Project: 17/135/02. He is Reviewer, Editor and Advisor of various scientific journals. He has participated in numerous scientific events as a speaker and moderator.
Dr. Deraco currently holds executive or honorary positions in various scientific societies. He is member of the Board of Directors of the PSOGI, of the IART: (Italian Association for Rare Tumors) and of the clinical group for COST Action CA101 European Network on Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.
He has published more than 200 indexed scientific articles and 25 book chapters and his h-index = 50 (Scopus 05 march 31st 2021).
